DR. CHRIS GROVES is a researcher at the ESRC Centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS) at Cardiff University. He set up Cardiff Philosophy Cafe at the Gate Arts Centre in July 2008 as a way of encouraging social scientists and philosophers to engage with non-academic audiences. His research focuses on how societies understand their relationship with their own futures. and how this understanding affects how people act in the here and now. These themes are brought together in the monograph Future Matters: Action, Knowledge and Ethics, co-authored with the eminent sociologist and time theorist Barbara Adam.
