For the past two years the MRC centre and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute have had a stall at the Neath-Port Talbot Careers Fair at Margam Orangery. The event run by Careers Wales West aims to inform schoolchildren from South West Wales as to the many career paths open to them. Representing Genetic Science, Research on the Brain and Life at a University, six researchers spent the day (Thursday 29th September 2011) discussing the work they do, answering questions about their job, engaging with issues and testing them on their knowledge of the brain.
The stall was a mixture of informative games, props and information about the research we do.
1000 schoolchildren in years 9-10 from Cefn Saeson, Dwr-y-Felin, Llangatwg, Dyffryn, Cwmtawe, Sandfields, St Joseph’s, Cwrt Sart, Cymer Afan were invited to the Careers Fair and were welcomed at our stall by Dr. William Davies, Dr. Jamie Lewis, Dr Evangelia Steriakouli, Ms Jessica Watts, Ms Eleni Kopsida, and Ms Martha Hvoslef-Eide.
